Anybody know of a supplier of bob-weight springs for Lucas dizzies? Surprisingly Lucas used to supply ... but now you mention ignition and LSUK are struck dumb ... Mine are decidedly sloppy as are most things after 30 years!
The stronger spring is meant to be loose on the posts, the weaker spring comes in first as the revs increase, then the stronger spring operates after some advance has happened. Decidedly sloppy might be OK
It's a 35D8, date 49 74 ... so it is 31 years old! It's ref number is 41382 E
The exact spring match will be a bit vague as it's currently on a 3.5 high compression vitesse block with larger valve heads and an old timing cover! However up until a few weeks ago it was running pretty well but now I'm sure it isn't getting enough advance and I think at least the heavy spring has given up as one turn is definitely mis-shapen, the lighter one looks ok but is still quite sloppy so there will be immediate advance at idle which I don't want.
Excellent discussion on the distributor internals here:
