p38a electric windows !

Oct 13, 2005 5 Replies

anyone else had this problem !

front window judders when trying to close the last 10mm and then wont close fully stays about 5mm open ! if I manually lift the window with motor running it will close but not without the motor running !

broken tooth on mechanism or cog ? fault motor ?

mechanism is riveted on so would like a few suggestions before I start drilling !

thanks

Could be just the whole mechanism is a bit stiff (and voltage when engine not running lower than when running hence inability to close).

(Sorry, just re-read your post, and realised you meant"electric" motor).

Get some silicon spray and liberally spray the tracks where the glass slides up and down.

Works wonders.

Really.

(Still try the silicon spray, cheap and quick).

cheers ! will give it a try once it stops raining !

well that didnt work ! better light now and I can see the cam jumping side to side as the cog turns , so it looks like I will have to take the mechanism apart ! and the star drive set is at home so will have to leave it for another day !

thanks anyway

Mine did this, one of the rivets holding the mechanism to the door frame had broken. So whole lift mechanism was turning rather lifting glass.

fixed it ! had to weld a few new teeth onto the lift cam and then file them to shape ! cheaper than buying a new lift mechanism !
