purchasing info

Hi

Been reading hear for a while and have a few questions.

Because of an expanding family, I am considering changing to landrover/rangerover.

I have been looking for comparisons between the models i.e. luggage capacity e.t.c. without much joy. I need a 7 seater.

I am thinking t.d. for economy reasons.

I need to do some occasional towing. I also need to be able to get round the country without going deaf or shaking myself to bits.

I have previously had a string of volvos (240, 740, 960. How does reliability compare. The volvos all did over 200,000 miles without major problems. Could I expect this from a landrover?

Also, is the inside area of the disco similar to the rangerover?

Any comments welcome.

Assuming you don't want a 110... (you'd probably know if you did)...

For 7 seats you need the Discovery. The diesel is a fine machine, and I have a friend with a 300TDi 1995 model which is now just shy of

200,000 miles. It has had a new gearbox (a common thing on the older ones, now sorted on current ones), otherwise nothing other than consumable items and regular servicing.

Interior is different to Range Rover, certainly the new one anyway. Not a million miles different to the last of the classic Range Rover though - more blocky and functional than smooth and flashy. But it works well, so much so that it hasn't changed much since 1995.

There is no better towing vehicle than the Discovery, with the possible exception of the 110. An auto may be a good choice - it's a love it or hate it thing I guess.

If you are going second-hand don't discount the V8. They are much cheaper and you could LPG convert and still have money to spare. And a much smoother, more powerful machine.

The new model is coming soon(ish) so I think dealers will be flexible on the price of new ones right now.
