Rangie air suspension conundrum

I've noticed my EAS air compressor is running quite a lot. Being quite paranoid in general, I'm interested in some opinions as to what to look for.

When starting the vehicle from warm (eg at a petrol station), the compressor runs for 3-4 mins afterwards, even if it's only been parked a couple of minutes. This seems odd, given that when the vehicle is running normally, the compressor doesn't seem unduly active.

It also compresses quite a bit when moving from motorway mode to normal height, although I guess that's to be expected.

When left for 3-4 days, the whole system seems to lose pressure, and the compressor runs for about 4-5 mins just to get enough puff to get the car off the bump stops. I've left it parked for a couple of hours with the door open to stop it self-levelling, though, and no corner seems to drop down noticeably more than the others.

If it just generally compressed a lot I'd assume it was a simple air leak somewhere, or leaky springs. I'm puzzled by the fact that it compresses disproportionately when the vehicle has been parked up for a short time. Any ideas if this could be triggering the system to vent for some reason?

The springs have done about 120,000 miles, so they won't be in the first flush of life, but no one seems to be leaking shockingly noticeably. No obvious signs of leakage from the valve block, unions or reservoir, but the damn stuff must be coming out somewhere. Andy's Rovacom doesn't report anything electronically suspicious.

I'd like to get some ideas as to what it could be, as I don't want to prematurely knacker my compressor because it's having to run so often. In the absence of any other ideas, I guess replacing the o-rings in the valve block and unions would be a cheap place to start.

BTW, in case anybody missed my harping on about it, it's a 96 P38a.

Thanks, David.

You should be looking for another Range Rover David. If hassel could be expressed into pounds - should you be bankrupted by now?

She's giving you hassel every week - if it was a woman she'd be long gone by now

Hope you can fix the EAS

I disagree - it's all part of Land Rover ownership - I was expecting this when I bought it!

All in all, it's not been that much hassle yet, although I dare say it's limbering up.

erm... could the compressor be lacking puff? dodgy rings, or something, or whatever it has? sounds to me that it's pumping at the sort of times you'd expect, but producing slower results than expected.

not that I know what to expect, but that's what it sounds like...
