Well, I took it in to the local LPG specialist (UK importers of the system it uses) to get the damn document the insurance people need. But it failed the tests! They showed me the emission results, and they were way, way out of kilter on lpg.

The diagnosis: my 2 injectors are knackered. Fitting new injectors solved the problem. It was overfuelling quite a bit, so it should run better now, and it should also use a lot less gas. Although, they will probably need replacing again in a few years, such is the nature of the beast.

The bad news is the £500 bill. The alternative was to go for a whole new LPG system - a newer one which would use better injectors, run better, etc. But that would have been more than a bag of sand, so I decided against.

Hmm, how do I explain this to Abby?

David.

You've invested a few quid (don't be specific) into making it more fuel efficient, thus saving the family money in the long term. And you're doing your bit for the environment, which means the kids will have a happier life.

What a great guy you are!

The other way around..... like I nearly had to buy a whole new system but managed to get the parts replaced cheaper.

Honesty is the best policy. She'll be even more annoyed to think you have had to make up a half truth or not tell her the full story.

David> Hmm, how do I explain this to Abby?

"Oh it wasn't expensive", followed by changing the subject. It works for me - and given that you are in danger of meeting my SWMBO some day I'd ask you not to repeat that to her!!!!! :-)

It's worked for years at work. "How much is that going to cost?", says my boss. "Oh, not too much - forty or fifty grand for the whole company". Or "Well, I've negotiated a good discount so we can get it for only 20 quid a PC", neglecting to mention the 1,500 PCs we need it for.

I'm told "you look nice today" is also a good answer!

I just hope she never discovers Google Groups... :)

Unfortunately I'm lousy at lying anyway... but I don't think she'll be too chuffed...

No point in trying then is there as she'll know.
