I've found a very workable clamp for the camcorder is an old adjustable mobile phone holder fitted to the top of the CB radio mounted on the dashboard.

Works a treat!

This one's easy.

Stick a relay in the ignition controlled power lead to the radio and have the relay triggered by the mute output from the handsfree kit. The stereo will shut off every time.

If there isn't a mute wire option on the stereo you can always fit a relay into the switched 12v system operated by the mute output from the handsfree kit done this a few times and works a treat

The thing that wories me though is vibration, the human body is a very good shock absorber and steadicam.

Vibration and shock were concerns for me too when I cobbled the rig together, but it has been fine so far. Vibration is visibly worse on relatively flat terrain than on more serious axle twisting bits. The whole set-up has quite a bit of play in it - it's not too rigid - so that should help. I am looking to put some damping into the Mk2 version though.

Thanks to all for the replies - I've just got back from taking the Disco down to London for the week, which it quite happily did without any complaints. I'll have to get around to sorting the hands free kit out next weekend I think.
