Rear wheel cylinder

Feb 24, 2004 2 Replies

One of my rear wheel cylinders on my SIII SWB is leaking and it needs replacing. I know that if you replace shoes then both sides should be done (left and right). Should I replace both cylinders will am I ok just replacing the faulty one?

TIA Paul

As long as the oter one is working properly, there should be no problem just changing the one side.

Strictly speaking you don't have to replace both cylinders at the same time

- but if one is leaking the other may be about to. Also, bear in mind that when you get the drum off you may find that the shoes are contaminated with brake fluid, and in that case you will have to replace both sides, and it would be good policy to replace the other one or at least examine it and fit new seals.
