Running in 2,25

Take it easy, dont go above 60kmh and you should be fine, no high revving and don't spend too long in first gear. Let it have a rest every couple of hours.

some info from a book I have here "vehicle dependant expedition guide".

0-150 km - avoid operation above 55% rpm. stop and let the engine cool for 5-10 minutes after every hour of operation. vary engine speed, do not operate at one set throttle position.

150-500 km - avoid prolonged operation above 70% rpm. Rev the engine freely through the gears but do not use full throttle at any time.

500-1000 km - Avoid full throttle operation, Avoid cruising in excess of 85% rpm.

Also mentions oils.....

Initial fill for running-in should be something like a 10w-40 mineral based multi-grade, not a synthetic or semi-synthetic.

First service at 600 miles (965km), refill with same kind of oil.

It also advises continuing the running in process as above (500-1000 km) until 2500 miles (4000 km) and then move to a synthetic oil (personally I'd continue with mineral).

I hope this lot helps a little. ;o)

That first gear rule is to avoid over-revving. But, depending on gearing, a Series Land Rover can pull away at very low revs, and that should be avoided too.

Any suggestions on running in my overhauled 2,25 petrol. I did re-sleeve the cylinders, big ends and ground crank, cam bearings and rings of course (+40 thou)

I was hoping to leave tomorrow for Knysna (600km) and use this as running in. Only worry is all the camping gear, wife kid's etc. putting on load over mountain passes. Is this a good idea, or must I rather use my Polo Classic?

Cheers James
