I posted some data about this some months back, ISTR DERV being very expensive here but for petrol we were in the lower half of the other european nations, although we did say (as a hive mind) at the time that regulations can make a change, e.g. some segments of the community getting rebates and all that.

Err yes, I missed that bit! Perfectly true, however I think the reason they don't heavily influence the RPI is precisely because they are largely outside of the control of our economy, so they affect the RPI in secondary ways by slowly pushing up the price of some things.

Well I hope for your sake they see sense! It's a shame you can't charge for your services and charge them separately for fuel.

Yep I know, and the tories said in September 2006 that if they were re-elected, they'd re-start the escalator. I hope they've changed their minds on that one! At the time they said that though people were hardly content with fuel prices as they were.

I don't think it's been scrapped as such, just that the last few increases due by it have been "postponed". Important difference.
