Ford have alegedly put Jaguar and LandRover up for sale. An Indian co. called Tata is likely to be the new owner. This may be a good thing as they kept the Morris Oxford going for years. ))

Tata seem to know a bit about decent engines - they have a large joint venture company with Cummins making truck engines. Rather more worringly they appear to make Fiats under licence, and any sort of Fiat input can only be a bad thing.
Why? The Fiat factory in Poland turns out some cracking tiny cars.

Fiat are good at small petrol engines that you can rev the nuts off. But they seem to have a blind spot about gearboxes, or they used to anyway. As for rust, well, all the 80s cars rusted, so that's hardly a fair accusation.
Fiats in the Southern hemisphere don't seem to work well.
SWMBO is on her fourth cinquecento sporting (she tends to crash them on a regular basis, luckily they are cheap to replace). Not one has shown any sign of body rust, one had rusted fuel pipes replaced for mot other than that rust hasn't been a problem, one needed a clutch and apart from all of them regularly eating clutch cables there have been no problems.
I understand they were built in the old LADA factory (which was ex Fiat
124 and 125) now they make Panda, and new 500. The Panda is very good town car.
It's cos the bathwater drains a different way mate.
And is available in 4x4.
The only thing I am remotely concerned about is the continuing availability of spares for series landies.

Well, I for one won't run out of those for a good while yet, especially gearbox bits.
