Hope to get some words of wisdom ......fuel sender unit in 110 worked just fine. Then removed tank, refitted new tank and dropped in unit ...and now it reads empty when full ....start so move to quarter when around 3.4 full ...and then paranoid me fills again....... the connector is still used so now chance of crossing wires ..... is it upside down in the tank?

Well, its either upside down or you've got the connector on the wrong way up!
I would suggest you first check the connector. If you can turn it the other way, do so. Failing that, you'll need to check you have the unit in the right way up - might be a good idea to wait until the tank is empty (or, in your case, "full") before you pull it out of the side of the tank of course!
