AC Radio Fuse Question

Question about the A/C Radio fuse. It keeps getting blown everytime I start my car, I have a 94 ES. I'm confused as to what would cause this problem. I do hear a click click around the engine before the fuse gets blown. At the moment my temperature gages and radio do not work. There is power but as for heat or AC there is none. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A fuse blows immediately is usually a sign of a short to ground. Are there any aftermarket accessories installed in the car, like an aftermarket audio system, satellite radio, theft deterrent system, i-Pod adapter, remote starter, etc.? If so, I would start by checking the wiring to make sure the insulation and wiring are not damaged.

If not, a competent technician will need an electrical wiring diagram to diagnose and repair the problem.

Clicking a few times in the engine bay should suggest it's probably the compressor clutch. Radio isn't going to do that in the engine bay.

Try disconnect the AC compressor clutch wire connector next to the compressor. Replace the fuse, and start up as usual. If it doesn't blow the fuse this time you know it's the compressor clutch coil shorting to ground. How's the AC working? I hope the compressor is still good ($$$$$). What mileage is your car? A 94 is still half way decent that the clutch shouldn't burn out unless it's subjected to excess heat, loads or repeated cycling that burned itself out.
