CAR PROBLEMS 1991 Lexus LS400

Hello, My 1991 Lexus LS 400 has recently broke down. It was operating fine then suddenly the next day the car was dead. Nothing would work, not even the lights inside the car would come on. The following day I bought a new battery at Walmart and installed it myself. The car started up and operated as if there had been no problem to begin with. However, the next day the car was dead again. I tried jumping cables and that didn?t work either. It might be the alternator, but becasue the car I can?t move can?t take it to an autoshop to find out where the alternaotr is located. Please send me some information

Try putting a battery charger or jumping from a vehicle with a fully charged battery. Once the car is running, check alternator output voltage or bring it somewhere that will check it for you, like a dealer or Sears. If the battery and alternator output are satisfactory then check for a draw like interior light - dome light, glove box light, trunk light, radio, etc. with the ignition off.

I say your problem is the Wal-Mart battery! My Lexus wouldn't let me pull into a Wal-Mart parking lot for anything. Yours is probably having the same issues - doesn't want that piece of junk battery installed in her!

Just me.

1). If you think the ALT light is out on the dash...simply check the battery volts when the car is running it will be 12.5-13 volts. 2). The ALT is under the power steering pump...A common problem since the O-ring seal from the hose leaks and if you have been filling the power steering fluid regularly the ALT circuit can short out. 3). In the US and Canada one can get parts for the ALT from John Deer (They use the exact same DENSO ALT on the big Agra-rigs). Lexus only sells complete units. 4). If it is just running down over night...check the trunk light switch. An open door has a light on the dash but the trunk does not...yet both will keep the computer on and kill the battery in half a day (or night).
