RX300 - Clock resets to 1:00am

The clock in my 2000 RX300 has started to reset itself to 1:00am. This usually happens after a clold night, or on really cold days when the car has been sitting for a couple of hours. Thinking it could be a dirty connection on the battery, I cleaned the posts and the connectors, but still the problem happens. The car cranks well, and the alternator is delivering full output.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks AZF

Have you checked the clock fuse?

Thanks for the reply. I've replaced it just as a precaution, and it still happens. I don't know if there's an on-board battery for the display...if there is, I sure don't know where to find it. AZF

I don't think that there is an on-board battery for the clock. There are 2 power sources for the clock. The display is switched with the ignition and accessories and the clock itself is always powered.

My RX did the exact same thing with the clock resetting, a week or so before the battery failed. Seemed like the battery level was falling below a "threshold" overnight but still had enough power to start the car in the morning. New battery and all was well.

Thanks for the replies. I would guess I should replace the battery now before I really have a problem. AZF

If your car still has the original battery, its no doubt giving you a hint that it needs a new battery.

If your vehicle still has the original battery, install a new battery. Many times when the clock does that, its a sign that the battery is on its last legs.

Well, thank you everyone for your suggestions. I put a new battery in, and we'll see what happens. (It was the original battery -- I didn't know Panasonic made car batteries)

Thanks again!

My OE Pansonic battery lasted 36 months, 1 week, 2 days. If you got 5 years out of yours you are doing great!
