Strange power locks issue

Hey guys. I have an issue and where else to go? Alright. We've got a

1998 Lexus gs 300. When I hit the door lock or unlock button the 2 front doors act like they're supposed to. The rear driver side is unresponsive. It will not lock or unlock by power. The rear passenger side will unlock but will not lock. All doors will lock/unlock by hand. What do you guys think? How do I fix this?

Thanks as always

There are several possible causes of the problem. Before you can fix it, you should diagnose the problem with an electrical wiring diagram and an electrical multi-meter. The electrical wiring diagram is available online for a daily fee at

If you want to take a shot before you pay, check for voltage at the rear door actuators to see if power is getting to the actuators when the lock and unlock buttons are pressed. If there is power at the actuator when the buttons are pressed but it still doesn't work, the actuators are binding or bad or the actuator has become disconnected from the door locks

Child Protection issue ?

*******

The child protection feature on the rear doors prevent the doors from opening from the inside, even when the doors are unlocked. It does not affect whether or not the power door locks work.

thanks for the advice. I have to wonder what an actuator looks like. I was able to get the trim off and I assumed I needed a new ecu that big black box. I have h official Lexus repair manual I didn't see any specific item labeled actuator. Also the one door will unlock but not lock. I wonder what would cause that. Ray uve helped me over the years with this same car. I'm very grateful.

************** The actuator is part of the latch assembly. You can see a drawing of the assembly by going to

Register as a user (I have not gotten any spam ins a couple of years of frequent use). Then register your vehicle. After you have registered your vehicle, Click on "Vehicle Repair Guide" Click on "Body" click on "Interior" Scroll down and click on "Locks & Lock Systems" Click on the drawing and it will enlarge for easier viewing, then scroll down for instructions.

Good luck!
