Anyone know what the going price is these days to have the dealer replace the alternator on a '96 LS400?
Looking at it, doesn't look like it could take any more than 1 hour shop labor plus whatever the alternator costs.

Sorry for following up my own post, but for anyone interested, the total job ran $567.62 at the dealership, as follows;
$ 91.89 labor $439.47 parts $ 36.26 tax
I know I'm probably foolish for spend>Anyone know what the going price is these days to have the dealer replace
the part was a ripoff. try toyota rebuilt next time.
Why did a 7-year old Lexus LS 400 alternator fail? My 15-year old Toyota Camry alternator still works fine.
I've heard that an LS400 alternator will fail when the power steering pump starts to go out (as in leak). Look into the pump and high pressure hose.
That problem is only prevalent on the older model. It was fixed on series
3 ('95 and newer). In fact the voltage regulator is what failed. However, it is a component part of the alternator, hence the need to replace.Have something to add? Share your thoughts — no account required.
