Warranty / Shock-absorber

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the following. I've just purchased in the last 3 weeks a Mazda 6 (54 plate) 15000 miles. Over the last couple of days I've noticed when I go over a hole / bump a "thudding" noise coming from the nearside front wheel. It doesn't happen every time but happens more often than not.



I had a quick look under the wheel arch with the wheel still on and the shocker looks to have liquid running down it from what I can see (dry day).



If it is the shocker is this covered in the manufacturers warranty? Car is only 10 months old. I could always take it back to the garage I bought it from but would prefer to take it to a Mazda dealer as it is a lot closer / more convenient.



Again if it is the shocker, should whatever garage that is fixing it, be under obligation to replace both front shockers?

Shock absorbers normally carry a limited warranty, as they are classed as a 'wear item' (like brake pads, clutches etc...).

The warranty varies greatly between manufacturers, as does the replacement (although most manufacturers advice that shock absorbers are changed in pairs, very few if any will replace both under warranty)

Whilst I agree that shockers should be a wear and tear item up to a point, surely 10 months is just a tad too short a time? The last shocker I changed was on a RWD Cavalier and it was 10 years old when I changed it.

That would be covered under the warrenty from Mazda. Car warrenties today are very good for the 3 or 4 years and 36000 miles or so. Just give your Mazda dealer a ring . Scott
