Windshield replacement

I'm thinking of getting my windshield replaced on my '99 RX300 -- got dinged by another 18-wheeler giving me matching cracks in my front glass...

Has anyone tried one of the so-called "mobile" windshield replacement outfits? The ones that replace your glass while your car is parked at work or at home? Any good/bad experiences to relate? Any info would be appreciated...

I've had it done twice with my '98 ES300 (and three other times with my other cars over the years)- excellent results every time. (Used different glass companies, too.) Those guys have it down pat by now. I'm in North Jersey, and each guy that goes out does several each day. I suppose there's always the risk of getting an inexperienced rookie, though.

The only problems I've had were:

One time (not on the Lexus) My windshield washer didn't work after he left. Turns out he sliced the washer fluid hose with his knife, when removing the rubber gasket. They paid to have it fixed.

Another time (on the '98 ES), after they left, they wipers were parked too low below the cowling in the winter position. I couldn't pull the wipers out away from the windshield. I called them, and the guy returned to adjust the park position one notch higher on the wiper drive sprocket.

Bottom line is, that on 5 replacements, I've never had a leak or serious problem. I have read of complaints by others, but it's always worked out okay for me.......

Let's see....40% of your replacements have required a call-back because the installer screwed something up.

I don't know about you, but in my book that isn't "excellent results". Even if the windshields didn't leak.

My wife had her windshield replaced in the driveway - they did a perfect job. They had all the necessary equipment and reconnected the rain sensor and rear view mirror. Whole job took less than an hour.
