Hi, just bought a Zafira 99. It idles high when cold ( 1100 -1200) but is fine when fully warm (800) any ideas? Cheers

Now - think about what happened to the idle speed when you pulled the choke out...
Its exactly the same principle, except the ECU is now effectively giving it a bit more throttle and a lot more fuel to help keep drivabillity.which manual chokes screwed up a bit.

Cheers, makes sense, its just that the other petrol motors i have had have always gone straight to idle at 800 on startup
Depending on the engine and their high-idle temp they will all have a different level. Usually its 1200ish but my fathers BMW sits at around
900, big engine with lots of cyls though - i think maybe that makes the whole idle process smoother and easier to keep going when cold.Join the Discussion
