2003 Audi A4 Airbag ODBII codes visibility

A friend has got dashboard airbag warning lights, but a cheap ODBII* scanner is immediately not showing any codes. Are they stored in a peculiar location that might not be being read - something requiring a better scanner tool?

Or does he need to RTFM.....

An ordinary reader only looks at the engine systems.

IIRC, ODB is a standard more to do with emissions, so may well not read codes which don't refer to that.

Adrian Caspersz formulated on Saturday :

That will only read and clear codes stored by the engine ECU. To read other ECU codes something more specialised is needed.

Best solution is VCDS.
