2nd hand catalytic convertor

hi all

my car a 1997 clk 200's cat is gone. original part is 750+vat.

Aftermarket is around 350. However my local garage offered a 'mint' 2nd hand from a breaker for 130 pounds incl a 1 yr warranty.

should i go for the 2nd hand cat? any past experiences on cats that have been removed and re-installed?

cheers

Will they let you put it on and have it emissions tested, the same day perhaps? A lot of breakers guarantee their parts.

Sorry, didn't read the "1 year warranty" part.

I'd have it tested and if it was ok, keep it, obviously.

Does that warranty cover the part only or also the work?

Well they're trivial to fit & they normally last for ages, it might be worth investigating why the original died though.

You're right about that, but one speed bump is enough to kill one...

My point was more that even if the cat was covered by a warranty, the OP might still have to pay for the removal and refit of yet another one as he didn't seem to be the sort who would do it himself...
