405 half shaft replacement

The CV joint on the driver's side (RHS) half shaft on my neighbour's diesel K reg 405 estate has died. He asked for some help in replacing it. I've done a few, most recently on a Rover 214, but I've never done a

405/BX.

The driver's side has what appears to be a two part halfshaft - from gearbox/diff to intermediate bearing, and then CV and on to the hub.

Can I get away with just replacing the CV joint or does the shaft come as a single assembly. If so, how is the halfshaft retained in the gearbox?

Any other hints or tips?!!?

Cheers

You will i think need to replact the whole shaft Get from GSF or EURO The long drive shaft is held in to the intermediary bearing and rear engine mount by 2 11 mm nuts and bolts After releasing the CV from hub you need to belt the intemedary bearing hard from the middle of the car outwards..This can be really tight it is a push fit into the gearbox If you dont drain the gearbox before this you will wish you had Phil;
