96 Ford Escort hatch central locking problem

Sometimes the car won't let me in! Turn the key in the drivers door to unlock it, sometimes whirring and clicking and sometimes no sign of life at all. Eventually I see the handle on the passenger door move to the unlocked position, but the drivers door won't open. Clamber in through the passenger door, give the drivers door a bloody good thrashing and it will eventually, grudgingly, open. This is an occasional problem, but seems to be happening more often recently. Anybody got any ideas please! Many thanks, and a happy New Year to all

Nic.

El Niño is a disruption of the ocean-atmosphere system in the tropical Pacific having important consequences for weather around the globe.

Thanks so much for your elegant and articulate advice. This may have been of assistance when I sailed from Contadora to the Galapagos in 1999.

I don't think it has much relevance to my present problem.

May this new year bring you all that you would wish for others.

It looks like it's the best reply you've had to your question so far.

No, but it amused me. I'm obviously easily amused these days.

Thank you :)

I have just got to level 38 but the bloody thing is a little addictive. It doesnt link to anything nasty. Honest. And I still can't get into my daughters' car! Good luck Nic.

I have a 96 Escort, and it's had similar problems with the central locking as you describe.

Resolution: When you lock the car, dont "test" to see if the car is locked by attempting to open the door. Doing this moves the handles on the inside of the door slightly, enough to screw up the unlocking mechanism.

So, just lock the door and walk away - then the next day when you unlock it, you should have no problems.
