Advice needed:- How to change anti-freeze/water on Ford Escort?

Hi all!

Sorry to sound like a complete prat but I need to change the water in the radiator of my 1996 Ford Escot as it is really old and I am not sure the anti-freeze is much use.

I am useless at car maintence and wondered if anyone knew any websites (etc) that could help me with this as I haven'ta clue where to start.

I know I will have to drain it all first, but have no idea how.

Any help onto here would be vastly appreciated.

Cheers! Mr E.S.

He wants to change the water /in/ the radiator, not /the/ radiator!

Just open the draincock (don't let it run down the gutter, it's sweet tasting but poisonous to animals (and humans)). Once it's all out, put the correct amount of antifreeze in, then top up with water.

Sorry, I misread that he wanted to change the radiator 'as it was very old'

Not forgetting of course to replace the drain plug;-)

Or like I did with a Convoy once...the bottom hose. Wow that stuff doesn't harf come out fast from a big hose like that.

Even so, if the coolant is well past it's due change date then it wouldn't be a bad idea to remove the radiator and reverse flush it IMO.
