Maybe it's just shorter ;-)

The message from "Anon" contains these words:

Some hand-held fluorescent lamps use a high-resistance cable to ballast the tube. I s'pose it's cheaper and lighter than a choke in the lamp itself. The cable gets noticably warm.

Well, they say you learn something new every day, first time I heard of that one Skip.

I dont know my signature any more....only my pin !!

Shame I didn't learn how to spell "noticeably".

Which makes it a pain to splice back together if it gets cut or welding spattered through or someat.

The Aldi flavour uses a 2 loop PL type tube, just like energy saving compact fluorescent lamp except electronic ballast is in the fitting and lamp has pronged base.

Blooming Latin`s better than his English ;-)
