Astra 1.7 dti

My Astra 1.7 dti (y17dt isuzu engine) had a flat battery I jump started it disconected the jump leads and after a few seconds the engine stopped and would not restart.

The car was recovered and eventually ended up at the Vauxhall dealer where they diagnosed a faulty fuel ECU and a fan fault. The ECU was replaced and the battery which had been replaced with a new one was flat. The battery was charged and eventually the car was started at which point the Alternator was found not charging and the fan fault would not clear.

I collected the car and fitted a reconditioned alternator, the new alternator is now charging the battery yet I still have the Engine Management Light (EML) on. My local garage now has the car and have checked the system to find the fan fault will not clear, any suggestions as to where the problem lies will be most appreciated.

Guessing that this is a astra-g, it would have a cooling fan module in the gap between the n/s/f wheel arch liner and front bumper. It was known for these units to suffer from water ingress and corrosion. If you remove the shields, and unplug it, any corrosion should be obvious. And if you remove the module, it's fairly easy to open it up to check the circuit board for any corrosion.
