If "Honest" John hates it, it must be marvellous.
I'm quite tempted to get a Shogun Sport as a workhorse. Largely because Honest John doesn't like them and can't see the point of them. So they must be competent, reliable workhorses lacking in pointless bling features.
"Honest" John has a habit of getting his facts wrong IME.
For example, I suspect the quoted oil pump failure on PD engines only affected non-transverse versions (Skoda Superb, Audi A6/A4, Passat).
it was the long list of known reported faults which i found disturbing not whether H.John liked it or not

My owned from new 2008 Touran 2.0 TDi 140 DSG is coming up to 130,000 with no major problems. I planned to change it at 3 years old but as it's still racking up 25k per year I've decided not to waste money on hammering another and will keep this one going. I managed to get one of the last non DPF cars in the UK.
Still on original battery, exhaust and incredibly brake pads all round. Front tyres last c27k and rear tyres last c50k. It asks for a service about every 18.5k. I don't do much urban driving in it ;-)
I bought a steel spare wheel off Ebay with a nearly new Michelin tyre for £10 and keep it in the car when I'm not using all the seats or need a full boot space.
