Do you think I could get them to race for pink slips? Up changes should be between peak power and redline (Corvette C5 6 speed manual - above 6000rpm, below 6500rpm). Doing anything else will lose the race. Yeah the torque feels great and has best acceleration in that gear but peak power in lower gear has better acceleration than at peak torque in the next gear up.
Corvette C5 6 speed manual speed at redline
1st 56mph 2nd 83mph 3rd 114mph 4th 148mpph 5th 200mph 6th 296mph Top speed is in 5th at 185mph = peak power. In top it can barely scrape up 155 mph a long way short of 4400rpm peak torque which would be 200mph. This very long fuel economy overdrive means that for UK normal road speeds a block down change 6th > 3rd is needed (2nd will run out quite quickly). At 70mph in top a Mondeo 2.2TDCi will match it's WOT acceleration. Anything better than that has a definite edge in a 70mph top gear rolling start test (unless it's like a BMW 330Ci which also has a long top gear and very weak top gear response).
