Can anyone recommend a good mechanic?

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a licensed mechanic. If there was we would not suffer from the amateurs who give the trade such a bad name.

Then again if there were, wouldn't they all be charging more than this bloke wants to pay? ref. Corgi regd. gas fitters. Rick.

Given that main dealers are equally as incompetent as any back street garage, I somehow doubt it. The trade has a bad name because it is full of thieves.

What's a licensed mechanic?

Are not all trades full of thieves? Mechanics at a main dealer are all on a bonus scheme which promotes doing short cuts. I have always found the independent garage better for most items in both price and honesty. They want to keep you coming back main dealers have a captive audience.

No. They will all, of course, have some, but the garage trade is one of the worst. And perhaps the majority of the thieves seem to be in management.
