Cavalier 1.7TD ignition barrel

Dec 14, 2009 2 Replies

Hi,

Does the ignition switch for a 1994 1.7TD Cavalier have an imobiliser. I need to replace the barrel (and probably switch as it looks like a small plastic lug has broken). Is this a simple remove and replace job or is there more to it. I still have original key and barrel turns. I think what happend was that the tang snapped inside the ignition switch. Currently using a screwdriver to start the car after forcing switch off barrel.

Thanks

Jim

If the car starts without a key anywhere near the ignition barrel, which is what your post suggests, then there isn't an immobiliser.

Used to have one of these years ago. Just a key, no immobilser. If its good condition keep it, I always regretted selling mine.
