I was horrified to find cream gooey stuff under the oil filler cap. this to be honest scared the shit out of me because mayonaise means head gasket problems? to me anyway.
If you're not losing oil or water, it's probably just the result of regular short journeys ! Then relax, and take it for a decent run on the motorway for a hour or two ! :-)
Andy Pandy To e-mail, address hopefully, self-explanatory !
You've been reading too many scare stories. In the absence of any other symptons, HG failure is the last thing I'd suspect of causing mayonaaise in the oil filler cap. The most frequent cause is simply condensation in the engine, which naturally occurs as the engine cools down overnight etc.. On a run with the engine hot, it normally evaporates. On short runs, the engine never gets hot enough to get rid of it all. Hence the moisture builds up over time, until it shows as mayonaise or emulsified oil in the engine, and is visible in the filler cap. Give the car a good long run. Chances are that it will dissappear. Mike.
