corsa 1994 1.4 fan

what temp is the fan supposed to kick in ? i replaced the switch still didnt work wirings ok as i bridged it at the switch and fashioned a switch at the fuse box - fan works great. so ive replaced waterpump, cambelt and thermostat(oddly enough the thermostat was totally missing from the engine.....) the fan still doesnt kick in, radiator and hoses still get hot, only things i think it could be are dodgy temp gauge (not sure how to test) (the temp sender was faulty when i first bought it replaced it with new) or the new switch i bought is broke. must say i like these cars the parts are peanuts cheers

Around 3/4 up the gauge.

Only way to find that out is to change it.

cheers, ill take the new switch out tommorrow and do a continuity test over the gas, if its not that then it must be the guage :)

The fan won't start till the water is almost at boiling point.

Not so fast! I had the very same problem with my Rover. Turns out it was the ECU. The ECU is what actually tells the fan to go on.

I doubt that the guage or sender are at fault if it reads all the way into the red.

When you tested it, why did you need to use a switch at the fuse box? Normally, switching the ignition on would activate the power supply and you can then start the fan by simply bridging out the switch. Just wondering if it's something as simple as a blown fuse....
