Dashboard lights on Mondeo

Hi,

I started getting a funny ozoney smell in the cabin of my ('95, 50K) Mondeo a few weeks ago - and now the dashboard lights have stopped working. Other elecricals seem okay. Anything I can do without paying for professional help?

Thanks

I'd start with the dash rheostat to the right of the steering wheel (assuming it has one!)

Probably the dimmer unit. I would personally link it out and shove it back in the hole unused as I always have mine set to full anyway.

Usually the smelly item in a Mondeo is the blower control resistor, so this might be worth a look since your looking for warm bits. Mine was smelly on 2 and 3 only. Go to

and read about this to save mesome typing. I think the replacement resistor was £8. I repairer theloom with crimps and all is fine for two years now! :) Touch laminate... Rv!

Out of interest, what sort of crimps did you use? I've noticed 30A yellow heat-shrink crimps at Halfords - or would you recommend something better / more permanent?

I'd be lying if I said I knew. I used what was laying around my limited tool box, I believe they were yellow coded for the larger wire though. These would have been put on with a ratchet tool to ensure a good connection, but other than that I don't remember doing much special.

It is recommended to solder them on.
