Dropped a piece of plastic down the dip stick tube

U got a manual..does the tube come off ..Cd u just leave it and let it be chewed up in the engine

Shove it in. It'll get chewed up and spat out.

Its gone past the removable tube sadly.

Should I just leave it and hope its ends up in the sump ? and get an oil change in a week ?

My dad said its not worth worrying this much about and that it won't get past the oil pick up ? which protects against foreign ovject getting in the way.

Feel a bit of a tit for not covering the dipstick hole.

Yup, if you've poured abrasive down the tube then take the sump off, if it's bigger than that then don't worry about it

Wait till you drop a washer down an inlet manifold on a running engine.

If the sump removes, do it. If the sump doesn't remove, then change the oil.

How about dropping an M5 washer, being SURE you'd found it, then realising you hadn't...?

Or get a rag sucked into one :)

have you got one of those spring gripper things ? I find that these are pretty much required when working on my cars, what with me being so clumsy and dropping things all the time !

He's right - and if it gets in the way of the con-rods there's no risk of damage (except to the piece of plastic!)
