Engine Stall

1995 Olds 88 Royale. Always warms up OK while parked in driveway. But if driven cold the engine stalls just before final temperature is reached. The gas petal also freezes when this happens and requires a good foot force to free it up. Happens when outside temperatures are about 40 F or lower. Why?

I don't think this is the best newsgroup for you but it sounds a bit like carburettor icing. I'm guessing that a car of that age probably does have fuel injection but if it's of the single point variety, then I guess it could suffer from icing like carburettors used to occasionally.

If it's a new fault, then there may be a problem with the air intake system which probably ought to draw warmer air from over the radiator in cold weather.

Glad to be of service.

Problem solved - you should be using a piece of metal for gas control, not a piece of flimsy organic matter ;-)
