Escort stinky heater

Nov 20, 2006 2 Replies

I posted a few weeks back about my 98 escorts heating packing up, as suggested onhere it turned out to be the thermostat that was stuck open. I fitted a new one and whilst i was at it flushed all radiator and heater matrix out. The heating now works properly apart from one thing. When the engine is started from cold, after about 10 minutes there is a strange musty smell emitted from the blower, it only lasts for a short time and isn't particularly unpleasant but I would like to know what it could be.

Anyone?

has it got air conditioning? if so it needs a de-bacterialising of the evaporator exterior

Check for debris in the air path (eg leaves at this time of year). They get damp, smell, dry out, stop smelling, get damp again etc.
