FAO: Paul Giverin

When you did the tappets on your Ka, how did you turn the engine over? There's not really room to get a spanner on the end of the crank as far as I can tell in the dark with a torch.

Yes it really is quite tight but you can get a spanner on the crankshaft pulley bolt but you have to go from underneath. This means that unless you have got long arms, its ideally a two man job.... one to turn and the other to shout "stop" when the cam is in the right position.

Can't you just remove the spark plugs, put the car in gear and rock it backwards and forwards until it's in the right position?

Take the plugs out, jack up one front wheel, select top gear and you'll find you can turn the wheel quite easily to turn the engine.
