Fiesta Mobility Question

Does anyone know of a relatively easy way to carry a fold-up, adult wheelchair witha Fiesta? My mother cannot lift my dad's chair into the boot, so I was looking for something external where she could roll the chair onto - maybe something that attaches to the tow bar?

Thanks,

ROBBCWZ ( snipped-for-privacy@aol.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

If she can't lift it into the boot, is she going to be able to lift it onto a towbar mount, which isn't going to be a lot different in height?

A more expensive solution, but have you thought about the roofrack wheelchair holders?

The message from snipped-for-privacy@aol.com (ROBBCWZ) contains these words:

I've seen a thing like a single life-boat davit - a curved steel pipe with a windlass half way down. Planted in a socket in the boot, hooked onto the chair and wound up (the rope runs inside the tube) and lowered again. Dead simple to make and depending on the size of the wnich drum very light to operate. A bit of bent pipe needn't weigh that much, either.

Have a word with your local motability specialist, they will be able to put you in contact with someone who can make you something to attach to the towbar.

Probably something along the lines of one of those bike racks, the type where the wheels sit in a channel, (rather than the type where you lift the frame over a hook), which could possibly be adapted with a ramp that folded down onto the kerb, so she would only need to roll the chair up, rather than having to lift it.
