Ford KA Battery Terminal Question

Apologies - crossed posted this to wrong NG by mistake ......

Have had problems recently with my daughters P reg KA2 with it failing to start intermittently when ignition is turned without response tho lights on dash etc. Located problem to positive battery terminal which seems to foul up easily & when thoroughly cleaned all is well for a short time.

I've noticed that theres some sort of resistor/ capacitor on the main positive lead which gets hot and wondered if this has something to do with things & could it be faulty ? What is it for ? Is it something to do with engine management etc. The battery was replaced 6 months ago ! Any help solving this frustrating problem most appreciated

Cheers

possibly the fusible link, certainly a common fault on Fiestas

It's what's called a fusible link. In other words an inline fuse. It's there to help prevent a fire etc if the wiring before the fusebox is damaged. If it's getting hot it's got a fault. They can give trouble.

Ignoring the last paragraph i once had a faulty battery that would be fine for weeks on end, then just deliver no power whatsover with no warning, just as you say, no dash lights, no radio, no interior light. then once bump started or knocked / vibrated about a bit it would be fine.

That turned out to be an internal fault in the battery.
