I've had a few Fords, and IME, they're usually:
Slightly rusty. Siani's 5 year old Scorpio has signs of rust, but nothing serious. Still, it should have any at all.
Wobbly. The suspension just isn't very good, be it a Fiesta or a Granada, it seems to be the same basic setup. Horrid.
Plasticky. But they're cheap, so who cares.
Now, I've also found them to be:
Pretty much unkillable. My Granada Scorpio had 205,000 miles on it when it got stuffed up the back end, and all it needed really was a bumper. It's still going about, a year later, with the same cracked bumper.
Cheap and easy to fix. I even had a go at setting the tappets on the Scorpio, I've tried most jobs on Fords first. Not very well made, but you throw most of it away anyway.
Easy to sell. People seem to think they're a safe used buy.

stop right there they were crap cars with that engine and that's why no one bought them end of story :)
I had one for a long weekend it was great much better than the vectra it replaced never had a problem with it (bar the handbrake recall) and it was alarmingly quick, especially on the motorway now if you had a focus then you could have something to complain about...........

Please keep it up. I want the price of Mondeo TDCis to be depressed, so that in a few years when I get one, it'll be a bargain.
It's curious that of the four Fords I've run, they've all been spot on.
This one /waves at Ka/ has been the most troublesome with a tiny leak from the brake or clutch fluid, I suppose I should set about getting it investigated, really.

Well, every Fiat Group car I've owned has been less hassle than every Ford we've owned (total of 3 between us)...... even the VW is being more hassle than the Italian stuff.

1986 Ford Fiesta 1.1 Ghia, bought at 27K in 1994. Always started, occasionally baulked when running on the choke and you give it too much welly. Rust on the door under the rubbing strip, taking it away revealed a big gash where some muppet had bodged the repair. 42.4 mpg over 17,000 miles. Reason for the sale? Saw the mint Fiesta diesel below, had to have it . . . :) 1990 Ford Fiesta 1.8DL, bought at 54K in 1995. Always started, even when it hit -12 and he was buried in snow. Bit sooty, annoyingly rather sootless. Well screwed together - no rattles despite that chunky 1.8 litre rattly diesel engine. Rust? Couple of stone chips at the front. 55.8 mpg over 15,500 miles. Reason for selling it? Had a nasty accident in it, the Fiesta wasn't acrobatic, sadly. 1995 Fiat Cinquecento SX, bought at 11K in 1996. Mysteriously failed to start on two occasions (17K and about 35K as I recall), was probably an intermittent immobiliser fault, couldn't get it replicated. Self-correcting indicator stalks failed at the 30K marker. Gear lever _very_ stiff after a motorway run (two hands to get it out of fifth gear), handbrake stuck on with even a mild frost, handbrake useless even when stuck on, tappets went at 40K, _rust bubble_ on the tailgate at the 33K marker, broken electric window, went through at least two bulbs a month for four months in early 1997, used none in the summer, then blew more and more in the winter again.Deceased gearbox!?
1994 Mondeo LX TD. Bought at the 75K point in 1999. Duff battery (original fit), glow plugs at 85K (original fit), leaking fuel solenoid (101K), and that's it. 44.4 mpg over 34,500 miles. Changed because Charlie thought the Mondeo too big for UK roads. Sadly, just about perfect body wise, except a chip on the bonnet that I'd not bothered to fix /shame on me/. Mechanics bullet proof. Would have liked to have kept her. On original clutch when we sold her. 2001 Ford Ka. Bought at 3.5K, slow clutch / brake fluid leak, rusted seal, some scratches from the previous owner had to be fixed, that's it in 30K. Current average 38.7 mpg.For each and every argument against, there's an argument for.
Your experiences are not universal, though.
My Cinq experience was great, but the car itself had numerous difficulties. She saw dealership attention every 9000 miles and over the duration, each bill was always over £150 for additional work required (one was twice that). Kinda eroded the benefit of cheap insurance.
And she rusted in the middle of the tailgate. :(
As I say, I loved the car, but looking back there were more problems than I told myself at the time.

Just bought a 96N Scorpio Diesel, 106k. Plenty of toys and roomy. Body excellant, engine okay but no PSA or VAG. I'm no lover of Fords but at £525 I'll be a hypocrite for a few months.

Try a modern one. Better than anything else in their class for ride/handling, especially since Peugeot started killing off all their decent models. I'm driving a hired 1.6 Focus Zetec at the moment and I really don't want to give it back! Makes the Golf mk4 I had before feel like a bucket of soggy lard.
To a lesser extent, the plasticky interiors are better as well. Focus feels no less well made than the Golf.

kinda tatty looking maybe, but seeing as i paid £150 for my front ended insurance wrote off more than 2 years ago (92 facelifted with everything working and cost £6 to repair) i'm sure you can look around and find a bargain :)
Is this the bug-eyed one, or the last of the previous shape.
I had a ride in a bug eyed one (taxi). The outside is _monstrous_, but when= =20 I got inside, it was like a leather clad Gin Palace. I was extremely=20 impressed.
