Ford Transit 2.0 1989 unleaded fuel

Will this vehicle run on unleaded.does it require just the timing to be retarded or would it need hardened valve seats? Your opinions would be welcome.

TIA

Ford should be able to tell you, depends on engine I guess.

The Autodata unleaded book says reset timing to 2 degrees at 800 vac disconnected then use a tank of lrp every fourth tank. If the head is marked L P or PP next to number 4 plug then you can use unleaded continually.

From experience, that's a rather pessimistic setting. I found by experiment (driving up hills on hot days in high gear) that the two Transits I was running on UL didn't need retarding at all.

Same was true of the MG Metro as well.
