Has anyone had experience with the Kenlowe Hotstart?
It appears that the pre-heating of the coolant can also provide a quicker acting and more effective windscreen demister, aside from its main function of warming the engine.

Toughening puts the surfaces of the screen in compression, so I'd expect them to be even less susceptible to thermal shock from boiling water.

: Bimey - I've seen a price of $1800 on a US website for a webasto parking : heater (not sure if the same model).
A friend of my swears by his Kenlowe engine preheater: it's an electric heating element and pump, plumbed into the cooling circuit. He has it on a timeswitch for about 30 minutes before he leaves, so the heater works as soon as he goes. On icy days he switches on the heater fan by hand - hasn't got round to a timeswitch for that yet ...

Deicers work by lowering the freezing point of the ice. Going from ice to liquid takes considerable energy - deicer makes the screen a lot colder than it was before - just not quite cold enough to freeze the water/deicer mix on the outside but plenty cold to freeze any water on the inside.
Cold water seems to be plenty warm enough... thinking about the temperature difference (cleaning the car with warm water during the summer, compared with de-icing windscreens in the winter) lukewarm water should be about right....

Got me thinking and I got a result I realised my central heating vent is on the wall alongside the drive I just park further back so my screen is level with the vent, the central heating comes on half an hour before we rise, then have breakfast wander out and the screen is clear voila Thanks for the brain exercise
