Galaxy sharan alhambra.

I am told that a common fault with the later models is that the rear heating matrix fuelled by diesel somehow goes wrong with disastrous results. Oil evertwhere and clouds of smoke.

How does this system actually work?

Can the matrix be bypassed pending repairs?

Is it a case of replacing some sort of radiator??

About to search for a 7 seater and would lke to know what i may be in for.

Tks

The actual rear heater is connected into the cooling system, just like the front one.

However, they have an Eberspacher diesel fired heater fitted underneath to assist with engine/coolant warm-up. They do go wrong, and if they do, go find your local Eberspacher dealer to get it fixed, as the dealers will only supply a complete new unit.

They're not an overly complex unit, but they do require a diagnostic reader to quickly find out whats wrong with them.

And they're trivial to bypass. Nice to have though, especially if you have the timer version to preheat the car when it's frosty.
