Seatbelt retraction

Apr 24, 2008 5 Replies

Another little problem with the Fiesta..... the driver seatbelt doesn't retract properly and I'm always shutting the door on the belt.

I've noticed that the problem is with the (what do you call it?) that the belt runs through as when I pull the belt between that and the actual reel it snaps back into place quickly. I always assumed it was the spring in the reel but evidently not.

New belt needed?

Thanks,

Peter.

Belt retraction can be much improved by cleaning.

Wipe it thoroughly with washing up liquid on a cloth and then clean water. Obviously you'll have to pay special attention to the part that is slowing it down.

I have known people to shave the fuzz off the webbing to improve the retraction

After cleaning, a light spray with a silicone based aerosol like those used to make old rubber bumper strips black again tends to work wonders.

Thanks guys, I'll try out those tips :)

Peter.

Rather than shaving, burn it off with the flame of a lighter.
