Getting fuel out of a Mazda 5

disconnect a fuel feed line and power up the fuel pump is one way. or disconnect the fuel return line and direct it into a can, then run the mazda.

Thanks, is there any easy way to identify which line is which?

From the pump there are atleast 3 lines I can identify, one big fat one which I suspect is the input (looks like a non-return valve fitted), and two more thinner feeds - one white dotted and one red dotted - swimming in diesel currently trying to work out which line(s) are which....

the biggest one at the filter will usually be the feed from the tank, this is assuming that the mazda has an electric pump in the tank !!! some diesels do, some don't. otherwise you will need to find which is the return line to the tank, you can then pull that off and connect to that and run the mazda (that way either the electric or the mechanical pump will suck from the tank and blow excess back through the return line into your fuel can)

I tried this with a Micra once. The ECU shuts down the pump after about 10 seconds if the system doesn't pressurise so you have to keep turning the ignition on and off (& waiting for the system to reset which isn't instant).

Easier still, borrow £20 off of a mate and put some fuel in the Pajero.

Well located the return feed but the backflow is pathetic - about 5 mins to get less than a litre of fuel... so think I'll abbandon this idea.
