Haynes Manuals - Real Meanings

Hi all,

Saw this over in uk.rec.humour, and just had to share it here:

My personal favourite has to be:

"Haynes: Compress... Translation: Squeeze with all your might, jump up and down on, swear at, throw at the garage wall, then search for it in the dark corner of the garage whilst muttering "bugger" repeatedly under your breath."

Cheers,

My personal favourite, having had this happen to me years ago, is:

Develop oil leak in old Ford Fiesta. Peruse Haynes manual in search of component on back of engine that is linked to oil system.

Find nothing similar in manual.

Find that oil pressure sensor is also unaccountably missing from manual.

Take car to mechanic for removal of old, cracked oil pressure sensor and replacement of new version of the same, then recycle the obviously bloody useless Haynes manual as emergency toilet paper, firelighters, etc.

In short, if they can f*ck it up that badly with a poxy sensor, the manual is obviously complete crap.

Contrary to their instructions, I managed to remove the engine from a FIAT127 without the gearbox. It wasn't all that difficult either.

Out of interest, anybody know where the fuel pump is on a mk1 golf. Haynes gives me a nice little diagram of it, but negates to tell me where abouts on the car it is located...

Just for your interest, the Haynes manuals in the US are just as bad. I guess there is a reason factory manuals cost a whole lot more, they actually have useful information in them.
