Idling from cold.....

Yes, obviously the comparisons with under load, the alternative is to compare it with it doing nothing. & the forced air cooling's going to do what to an engine that's the thermostat shut? It's really not going to make it warm up noticeably slower .

Forced air coming will cool all of the engine which is above ambient - I don't see how you can say its really not going to make it warm up noticeably slower - if there is an entry and exit for the air, then the cooling effect on the block and associated pipework could be significant

- the air surrounding the engine will be around ambient temp. If the vehicle is stationary, then the air around the engine will be heated way above ambient, being trapped to some extent by sides of the engine compartment and the bonnet (depending on sealing of bonnet). Before we had electric fans, this would be less of a factor because the mechanical fan blasts air at ambient temp across the engine.

This is essentially my point - we all have opinions about whether it is better for the engine to warm up on idle or being driven, but we don't have enough evidence to know for sure.

Well from a simple check my engine takes nearly 10 minutes to come to temperature when it's idling, it's less than a third of that driving down the road without revving the bollocks off it.

That's quick - mine takes 10+ minutes when driving but I haven't checked it on idling because: (a) I never have the time to wait (I use alternative methods of clearing the screen). (b) I've always thought it was bad for the engine (but ready to admit I could be wrong!)

I was playing hunt the air leak , personally I use a bucket of hot water, solves most problems.
