The rotor arm is attached to the cam which operates the points. If the rotor arm was broken so it no longer keyed to that shaft, yes. But slipped timing usually refers to the dizzy body moving or the drive to it slipping in some way.

Yes. & sometimes it doesn't move to where you want it to.
As mentioned above - check that the ignition timing is correct, check that fuel is getting into the cycinders - and - if that does not show a problem, do a compression test. Dave
I'd be surprised if the compression in all 6 cylinders dropped suddenly enough to prevent it starting.
Or more to the point, caused it to stop when already running. (Which was the original fault.)

critcher said.... my old focus had a problem where it would misfire and suddenly stop, It would then start after a lot of cranking, an autoelec diagnosed possible dry joints on the pcb under the dash and resoldered all the joints. Problem seemed to be solved but still continued as before. Changed plug leads and problem immediately resolved. There was no arcing between the leads in the dark, the engine just died, but the leads cured the fault, so it is possible that they can all fail together.
If the king lead fails, the whole HT system fails.
Changing yet another will make it four (one used, three new).
