jaguar gearbox

Does anyone have an approximate cost on changing a jaguar 3.0 S type SE gearbox?

The wear and tear on the drivers clutch leg and particularly the knee joint is priceless.

Manual or Auto? Paying Jaguar labour or a local garage, or fitting yourself?

2nd hand \ recon or new gearbox?

Anything from a few hundred £ for a 2nd hand box obtained from a scrappy upto many thousand for a new one supplied and fitted by Jaguar.

Why dont you ask the dealer first? They'll have more comfortable chairs for you to collapse from the shock into.

and nice coffee to revive you afterwards. With the labour rate in mine they should have a smoking room and paramedics on hand too.

It's more normal to have these overhauled. Somewhere about 1500-2000 quids at a specialist. Unless Jag supply an exchange unit that's the only way to go.

Whats the details of the car you have? I assume yours never had the ECU firmware updated which is the cause of most box failures on the S type due to its occasional whoopsie of selecting reverse whilst you're going forwards at speed.

it's a 3.0 litre se, 2001. I will call the dealer and see if they have a record.
