K-Seal - miracle cure?

Anyone tried K-Seal?

"Permanent repair for holes up to 1mm in diameter and Cracks of any length up to 0.5mm wide"

In what?

It has been suggested to me that this may be worth trying (it doesn't cost very much) prior to getting head gasket replacement (probably requiring a crack test and re-facing of the head as well) on our Rover

Is the suggestion that this might repair a cylinder head? I'd bet a large sum that it won't be effective for long. OK, it's only a tenner, but the gaskets for the c/h aren't free.

Sounds brilliant for clogging up everything you don't want clogged up. Which in an engine known for being on the critical side cooling wise, sounds like a bloody stupid idea.

Get the headgasket done, and get it done properly this time. And chuck a new water pump on at the same time.

I had some sort of sealant on my MK2 when the head cracked. IIRC it was about £20 a bottle, and it's not too happy in traffic, even after replacing the rad. Either the water pump was knackered and caused the overheating and blown HG / cracked head in the first place or it's knackered the water pump. I won't know until I pull the pump off and changing it. It does work though. If I were doing it again, I'd get a second hand head for £25 every time. You end up with an expansion bottle full of black s**te, and I doubt it's too great for your rad.

Just as a bit of a PS, I was skeptical about it at first, but I know people who've used it on lorries with similar problems and had it last without any trouble. I'm just not entirely sure about how it affects your cooling system.

I've used it on a Ford diesel tractor, which are notorious for porosity as a experiement. It lasted about 10days.

Circa £25 quid is the cheapest you'll find it at.

On a K series you dont want anything in the already marginal cooling system than 50/50 water / antifreeze.

IIRC a 216 has the Honda engine, not a K.

Depends which year / shape.
